Ryan Gobuty is a Los Angeles based photographer with over 16 years of professional experience.

His career highlights include nearly two decades at Gensler, the world’s largest architecture firm, starting as an architect. During his tenure, he produced over 20,000 finished photographs, illuminating a broad spectrum of projects, including numerous award-winners designed by an array of Design Principals.

Ryan brings to his work a deep understanding of architecture — he graduated with an architectural degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo — in addition to his technical proficiency.

His approach, to create emotion through storytelling, is at the core of every image he makes; themes of Purpose, Beauty, Precision, and Depth permeate every pixel. By expressing these concepts, Ryan conveys a greater message to the viewer. A photograph is not meant to represent reality or to document space; instead, it is evocative of a feeling, an emotion, a quality that is experienced in that space. Viewers feel the building’s presence.

Ryan's position as photography manager at Gensler incorporated managerial as well as creative roles. It included scheduling and photographing for six different Gensler offices, over 600 built projects, 400 employee portraits, and countless events, architectural models, and products.

Inspired by his desire to help other photographers better express their own visual language, Ryan teaching philosophy is to meet students where they are. His workshops offer thoughtful dialogue and engaging presentations of highly valuable expertise.

Ryan has taught architectural photography at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography and assisted the renowned Nick Merrick of Hall+Merrick Photographers at the Santa Fe Photography Workshops.

His work has been honored by the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles in its Architectural Photography Awards, which recognize artistic interpretation of the built environment in addition to an image’s documentarian components.

“Ryan Gobuty has had a terrific career photographing Gensler projects as their lead staff photographer. This has been no small task as Gensler is known for it’s demanding designers.

Now, Ryan is opening his own studio, and the Los Angeles design community is lucky to have such an accomplished photographer available to do their assignments.

Ryan was trained as an architect; so he understands his subject matter. He knows how to let the design of the subject matter direct the design of the photograph. Ryan takes great care in selecting his point of view and using light to create the illusion of 3-dimensional space. His photographs are not merely documentary, they are interpretive. I can’t wait to see the photographs Ryan creates in this new phase of his career.”
